The Vast Ways Inflammation Strikes Us and How to Lower It:
Inflammation is the body’s natural response to protect itself from injuries, infections and toxins. So what does it mean when you have chronic inflammation? What is your body fighting? Itself? Did you know the root cause of many chronic health conditions is your body trying to defend itself from attack? What is causing your body to feel under attack? What is in your environment that contributes to chronic inflammation?
Modern life quietly generates chronic, low-grade inflammation through dozens of everyday exposures that often escape notice. Elevated dietary fructose, for instance, accelerates de novo lipogenesis (fat-creation), raises uric acid, and increases reactive oxygen species in the liver and gut, promoting inflammatory signaling without producing obvious acute symptoms. Poorly ventilated rooms reduce fresh-air exchange, elevating indoor carbon dioxide and modestly lowering oxygen availability; the resulting mild hypoxia and CO₂ buildup can heighten sympathetic tone and oxidative stress over hours of occupancy. Everyday electromagnetic fields from phones, Wi-Fi, and appliances have been linked in some experimental settings to increased free-radical generation, adding a subtle oxidative burden on top of other stressors. And at the cellular level, mitochondrial Complex I is markedly more prone to electron leakage and superoxide production than Complex II, especially under high NADH/NAD⁺ ratios common in modern sedentary, high-calorie states; this preferential leak amplifies oxidative damage and inflammatory cascades. These examples sit alongside many other under-recognized contributors—such as circadian disruption, ultra-processed food additives, chronic low-level endotoxin exposure, and persistent psychological stress—that collectively sustain a background inflammatory tone capable of eroding metabolic and neurological resilience over time. Luckily, there’s many strategies we can implement to reduce the inflammation and regain our health with small tweaks and lifestyle changes. He brings expertise in biophysics, epigenetics, chronobiology, biochemistry, and cellular health. His knowledge extends to brain-gut connections, mitochondrial function, and body systems.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and previously worked at Stanford University in the Biology Department and Environmental Health & Safety. His detail-oriented mind and deep scientific understanding allow him to connect complex concepts in health and wellness.
Below is feedback Scott received after private one-on-one sessions with clients.
I had a great session with Scott. We covered a number of health topics that I was interested in. Scott was kind, and informative, and provided links to resources where I could learn more. He was generous with his time and provided explanations of concepts to help me learn. He is a human encyclopedia on topics relating to our environment and our health and probably more! He takes a holistic view of our body’s functioning within the complex and busy environment in which we live. Our conversation was filled with energy, curiosity, and exploration. To be honest, I could have continued talking with Scott all day if he would have let me! Thank you Scott! – Francine.
