Wireless radiation: Is it negatively impacting our children? Part 1/5
In the following days, I will be publishing a series addressing the topic of wireless radiation also known as Radio-frequency (RF) or Microwave Radiation (MWR). I hope that this information provides my readers with a clearer understanding of the current environmental crisis that we face and how it is impacting the people we care about the most.
Radio-frequency radiation (RFR), also known as microwave radiation (MWR) is the type of radiation emitted by wireless electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones, iPads, cordless phones, smart meters and wireless routers. These days, these devices surround us all day and are often kept in close proximity to our bodies for extended periods of time. RF radiation is classified by the World Health Organization as a class 2b carcinogen, in other words, a cancer causing agent. In practical terms, it means that is proven to be as damaging as other agents in the same category, such as DDT pesticide and lead exhaust.
We don’t willfully expose ourselves or our children to these elements, yet due to our lack of information, we overexpose ourselves and our loved ones to an excessive amount of wireless radiation.
If you spend some time looking into EMF studies and it’s sponsors, you will find that over 85% of research is actually funded by the mobile phone industry.
The implication is clear and the conflict of interest is a documented reality.
“The majority of telecom industry-sponsored research studies show no adverse effect and the majority of non-industry sponsored studies do show an adverse effect. Significant sponsorship and publication biases have been specifically noted in EMF research (Huss 2007, Valentini et al., 2011).”
On July 12, 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requesting for the FCC to open a formal inquiry into radiation standards for cell phones and other wireless products because children are more vulnerable to wireless radiation than adults.
In spite of the proliferation of cell phones across the globe and its evident radiation effects, no new studies have been conducted since 1996.
What was proven at the time, is that children absorb microwave radiation deeper into their brains than adults. The World Health Organization has shared with the public that “the average radio frequency energy accumulation is twice as high in certain regions of children’s brains and up to 10 times higher in the bone marrow of children’s skulls, compared to energy deposition in adult brains and skulls.”
Due to the accelerating presence of neurological disorders in children (ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorders), questions should arise regarding the impact of these exposures on our health and more specifically, the impact of this electromagnetic radiation on the developing brain of children. With current statistics indicating that 1 in 5 children now have some type of neurological problem, the need for attention to this research and most importantly, the clear effects of electromagnetic radiation in our young ones is imperative if we are to provide a bright future for our children.
